“Tweet Tweet. Get some nuts at Harry’s!”
So I have a Twitter account now…..Why? I’m not a hundred percent sure in fairness – but I am sure it makes sense and I will explore this in a further post.
One very interesting thing though is this: Recently I was asked a very improtant question by my children that most parents will hear at some time in their lives, usually when their child reaches 4 or 5 (so bang on time then).
So what is this question? Daddy why is that man fat? What is wrong with his head? What is on his face? While these are interesting questions they are not the subject of this post…Oh no! The question that I am referring to is simply……
“Daddy – Can we get a pet?”
Now for some this is not an issue – but for me, I can’t see the point really (of pets that is not children) – all that mess and having to organise holidays around them (although that’s hard enough with the kids!)
So being the loving Father that I am, I found a solution…oh yes! Clever me. Feel free to follow suit…
In my back yard (or garden) hanging on a tree and on the shed are an assortment of nuts and seeds for the birds to enjoy. I figure that the kids should take an interest in ornithology and learn about their surroundings and how we must be at one with nature and take care of our little feathered friends and enjoy their visits- besides birds can take care of themselves and any mess is outside. In fairness it has been fascinating and we have even bought a book(!) and now have a pair of binoculars – “Oh look a crested tit….” can often be heard in our house!
The point of this insight into my family ‘pets’ is…..
I was amazed at how just a few birds came at first (leading me to think that my clever idea had not been so clever after all) but was suprised how more and then more birds came and now we have a number of different types, all frequently feeding at our garden – even the local cat has figured this out…..
So how did they find out? Tweets and seeing what other birds were doing. “You look happy and more improtantly fed…were have you been?” remarks Peter Bird. “Oh yes well, I’ve been to Harry’s garden…there is a ton of stuff there – it’s as they say up north-happy days!” replies Paul Bird excitedly.
And so it continued….and now I hope that this is what will happen with my Twitter account…..stay tuned for more details!
